ANNOUNCEMENTS FROM TERRIFIC NEW THEATRE

July 27, 2020

TNT will survive...and...we are MOVING!!!

On behalf of the Terrific New Theatre board of trustees, I want to share with you two exciting developments concerning the future of TNT during these unprecedented, unparalleled and uncertain times:

  1. First of all, WE WILL SURVIVE THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC! Thanks to the ongoing financial support of so many generous donors and loyal patrons, TNT is in a strong position to remain hunkered down until it’s safe – from a public health standpoint – to re-open for business. Despite having to cease operations and suspend our 2019-20 season on March 14, we have been working non-stop behind the scenes to make sure we are ready to bring top-notch productions back to audiences as soon as possible. So your beloved TNT is NOT GOING ANYWHERE … well, except to A NEW LOCATION!!! Wait … WHAT?! Yep, you read that right …

  2. Once we get the green light to re-open for business, TNT WILL BE MOVING INTO A NEW SPACE! After careful consideration, the board of trustees recently decided to vacate TNT’s longtime home at the Pepper Place Complex while waiting out the pandemic. The departure was complete on July 31st, 2020. We realized the government-mandated closure – temporary, but of unknown duration – offered us an opportunity to write yet another chapter in the storied history of TNT. To be good stewards of the funds that we have received and continue to receive from wonderful donors and patrons like YOU – Terrific New Theatre will remain in hibernation for a bit until we are able to gather with you again for a magical and soul-nourishing evening of theatre IN OUR NEW HOME!!!

So there you have it, friends! We’ve said for decades that TNT is Birmingham’s favorite theatre for the unexpected … so we’re trying to live up to that billing!!!

Terrific New Theatre is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and we rely on the generous support of our friends and patrons, even in normal times. Under the current circumstances, WE NEED YOU MORE NOW THAN EVER BEFORE! We may be in hibernation, but we are still accepting donations (see DONATION button below) or send to our NEW MAILING ADDRESS: Terrific New Theatre, P.O. Box 130368, Birmingham, AL 35213. Incidentally, our phone number remains (205) 328-0868.

THANK YOU for your continued support as we transition into yet another new and thrilling era for TNT!!!

In gratitude,

Tam DeBolt

"RIPCORD" canceled. Moved to next season.

With the continued restrictions from our local government and health department, we feel we must CONTINUE to follow the best course. We are canceling our July 2020 production of "RIPCORD" and moving it to next season. Specific dates will be determined, but we are hoping it will be in our July slot...a year from now.

Though theaters are NOW "allowed" to re-open, the health guidelines continue to cripple our industry. People from different households must stay socially distanced (6 ft. apart) and masks must be worn. Keeping the health of our actors and creative team in mind, this means we are unable to hold rehearsals safely. Keeping the health of our PATRONS in mind, it also means that we would have to convert our 98-seat theater to a 20-seat theater inside of which all patrons must be masked and intermissions eliminated.

WE REMAIN HOPEFUL that we will survive and when this health crisis is behind us,

TNT will be here to satisfy your need for theater. We are doing everything we can

to keep that promise.

STAY SAFE...STAY HOME, when you can...STAY HEALTHY. We will see you all soon!

"TRAILER PARK" moves to February 2021

With the updated restrictions and guidelines from our county's health department, we feel we must follow the best course. NO GATHERINGS, and that includes rehearsals, until (at least) April 6th.

Typically, shows take about a month of rehearsals before the audience sees the final product. Knowing this, we have decided to MOVE "The Great American Trailer Park Musical" from its current spot (May 2020) into our NEXT SEASON. We are scrambling to keep the entire cast and production team together and we'll keep you updated as plans are cemented in place. Our plan is to present it to all of you in February 2021.

TERRIFIC NEW THEATRE cancels ‘THE NORA PLAYS’

After careful consideration of the State of Alabama and City of Birmingham’s COVID-19 guidelines regarding the well-being of our patrons, staff and artists, Terrific New Theatre has made the extremely difficult decision to cancel all remaining performances of THE NORA PLAYS: “A Doll’s House” and “A Doll’s House, Part 2.”

This is devastating news for us, and we did not make this decision lightly. We thank our loyal patrons for your patience as we move forward in these unprecedented times. I will be in touch with all patrons who purchased “A Doll’s House” and/or “A Doll’s House, Part 2” tickets to best accommodate the closing of this production.

As of today, we plan to push forward with the remainder of our season as the situation allows. We will continue to follow developments and update our patrons on a weekly basis … via our website, Facebook and email. If canceling performances of any future productions is warranted, plans for accommodating our season ticket holders and prepaid ticket holders will be formulated at that time.

As a nonprofit organization, TNT could use your support – now more than ever – to continue what we’ve done over the past 34 years: promote live theatre and provide a place for artists in our city to practice their craft. We know that you love what an evening at TNT entails – a couple of hours of high-quality theatre that strengthens community and nourishes your soul.

Suspending THE NORA PLAYS after only five performances puts TNT grossly behind its budget for March and April. We cannot overstate the devastating financial impact that having to cancel any future productions would have on our organization. Please help support TNT and its mission by making a donation to help us continue to produce theatre for years and years to come. If you are able and wish to help, click on the button:
